Portals

Tomorrow . 16 x 20 . watercolor on paper on board

A new series of paintings has quietly taken center stage in my studio. Quietly because the series grew without conscious intention. I thought I was digging down into one theme, but something else was actually developing.

My paintings are filled with constructed spaces that support and surround white openings. These unpainted spaces are like portals, literally and symbolically. A portal is an entrance and an exit, a gateway, a threshold and an invitation… a space of potential for growth and freedom.
