celebrity equinox: watercolor on the water

I’ve just completed my second month of teaching watercolor for Celebrity Cruises, this time on the beautiful Equinox, which sailed around the Mediterranean from one jaw-dropping port to another. Our group spanned a complete range of levels of experience, from people who have painted for some time, to people who have never held a brush in their hand.

In my workshops, I demonstrated basic watercolor techniques to passengers in small groups and individually; I also shared my travel sketchbook, along with experimental works from my studio. Below are a couple of the paintings I created as examples for the projects I brought to the students.

On the final night of the cruise, as we sailed from Valetta, Malta back to Barcelona, we presented an exhibition of works created by the passengers. In the video and photographs below, you’ll see some of the creative and imaginative work created in twelve days of cruising.

I can think of few things that compare with traveling by sea for total art inspiration.
